There is a great need for intelligent urban design and city planning to repair and strengthen our built environments to make them more organized, livable and inspirational. Urban design draws together the many strands of place-making, social equity and economic viability into the creation of places with distinct beauty and identity. Urban design involves architecture, landscape architecture, and city planning together to make urban areas functional and attractive.
Urban Planning is the design of the urban environment, including transportation networks, to guide and ensure the orderly development of settlements and communities. It concerns itself with research and analysis, strategic thinking, urban design, public consultation, policy recommendations, implementation and management. Planning is both science and art. It requires technical skills as well as creativity, a measure of pragmatism coupled with an ability to generate alternatives to the physical, social, economic, and political environments in which we live.
